Teeth Whitening
歯科ハミール
Even with careful brushing every day, dark-colored foods and drinks such as coffee, black tea, and curry, as well as the effects of smoking, gradually build up staining (stains) on the teeth.
As you get older, yellowing and dullness of the teeth become more noticeable, and here in Handa too, more and more people are turning to teeth whitening for a “cleaner, fresher” look around the mouth.
Our teeth whitening is about more than just making your teeth white — we place great importance on bringing out the natural translucency your own teeth already have. This brightens your whole facial complexion, helps make a better first impression, and gives you the confidence to smile without holding back.
“Can my teeth get whiter?” “About how long will it take?” Please feel free to bring any questions or concerns like these to us first through a free consultation. We will propose the whitening plan best suited to each patient’s lifestyle and desired level of whiteness.

We never grind down your precious teeth
Unlike treatments that use crowns or other restorations to make teeth look white, whitening requires no grinding of the tooth at all. A special agent penetrates the tooth surface and breaks down the staining substances themselves, so you get a beautifully white result without damaging your natural teeth.
A level of whiteness cleaning alone can’t achieve
Cleaning (PMTC), which only removes surface stains, cannot make teeth whiter than their natural color. Whitening, which uses an agent available only to medical institutions, can bleach stubborn yellowing that has penetrated deep into the tooth, giving a strikingly fresh translucency.
A custom plan for each patient
“In-office whitening” for immediate results, “home whitening” to work through at your own pace at home, and “dual whitening,” which combines the strengths of both. Let’s choose the method that suits you best together, based on your budget and how quickly you’d like to see results.
How teeth become whiter
Whitening toothpaste and similar products sold in stores mostly work by “abrading away surface stains,” but teeth whitening at a dental clinic uses a completely different approach: “breaking down pigment through a chemical reaction.” That is precisely why it can reach right into deep yellowing deposited beneath the enamel surface, restoring a truly clear, translucent white.
Before whitening
With age and years of accumulated eating and drinking habits, organic staining substances have worked their way deep into the tooth (the enamel and dentin).
The agent breaks down pigment
Once the whitening gel is applied, its active ingredients penetrate into the tooth and gradually break down the pigment responsible for the yellowing, in fine detail.
After whitening
Once the pigment becomes colorless and clear, the tooth’s natural whiteness stands out, giving you a fresh, beautiful smile with shine and translucency.
Types of teeth whitening
Done at the dental clinic
In-office whitening
This is where you visit our Handa clinic and a professional carries out the treatment for you. Because it uses a high-concentration agent and a special light source, you can easily notice a clear change even after just one session, making it a good choice if you want to “get whiter as soon as possible” for a wedding, an event, or a similar occasion.
Done at your own pace
Home whitening
For this method, we first make you a custom tray at our clinic, and you fill it with the whitening agent and wear it at home yourself. Because it uses a low-concentration agent that penetrates slowly, whitening takes a certain number of days, but the advantage is that the results are less likely to fade, letting you keep refining until you’re happy with the shade.
In-office whitening in detail
Leave it to the professionals! Feel the results quickly
A nationally licensed dental hygienist first protects your gums with care, then carries out the treatment safely. A high-concentration whitening agent is applied to the teeth and a special light is used to break down the pigment all at once. This course suits patients who are too busy to make repeated clinic visits, or who find daily at-home care a hassle.
Advantages
・No need to take an impression for a tray, so you can start right away
・Easy to reach your target shade in just one to a few short visits
Disadvantages
・Because whitening happens over a short period, the color tends to fade back a little faster than with home whitening
・Because a stronger agent is used, you may sometimes experience temporary tooth sensitivity
Home whitening in detail
Take your time at home for a whiteness that shines from within
We make you a custom tray that fits your teeth perfectly — all you have to do is fill it with whitening gel yourself and wear it.
Wearing it for about 2 hours every day, results gradually start to show from around 2 weeks in. It does take daily patience and commitment, but its popularity comes from the easy convenience of “multitasking care” — you can wear it while watching TV or reading — and from results that are slow to fade.
Advantages
・Because the agent penetrates deeply, the translucent whiteness lasts longer
・Less likely to cause sensitivity, and you can fine-tune the shade at your own pace
Disadvantages
・Reaching your ideal shade takes daily effort and time
・You need to avoid eating or drinking during the roughly 2 hours you wear the tray
Dual whitening in detail
Combining the strengths of in-office and home whitening for a refined result
This top-tier plan first whitens the teeth dramatically in one go with in-office whitening, then deepens and locks in that whiteness with home whitening afterward. Combining the two methods gets you “immediate results,” “lasting effect,” and “a level of whiteness beyond what either method reaches alone,” all at once. It is the course most favored by models, service-industry professionals, and anyone else who refuses to compromise on how white their teeth look.
Advantages
・Achieves the most translucent, most striking whiteness in the shortest time
・Locked in with home whitening, so the color fades back very little
Disadvantages
・Costs relatively more, since it combines two courses

3 tips for keeping your white smile longer
Get a thorough cleaning (PMTC) before treatment
If plaque or staining remain on the tooth surface, the whitening agent can’t penetrate evenly. Polishing the teeth smooth and clean beforehand with special equipment is what gives an even, beautiful result with no patchiness.
Hold off on dark-colored food for 24 hours after treatment
Right after whitening, your teeth are in a very sensitive state and absorb pigment more easily than usual. Avoiding coffee, curry, red wine, cigarettes, and the like for at least 24 hours is the golden rule for keeping your results.
Fine-tune your shade with a “touch-up” every few months
Just like hair coloring at a salon, tooth color inevitably fades back a little over time. Doing one additional whitening session (a touch-up) at the 3–6 month mark, before it fully reverts to the original color, lets you keep that beautiful result for much longer.
Why 歯科ハミール in Handa is chosen
Staff with specialist whitening qualifications on hand
Our clinic has a dental hygienist on staff who holds the “Whitening Coordinator” qualification, proof of solid knowledge and skill.
Rather than simply applying the agent, we assess each patient’s tooth condition and propose the most effective approach. Once you understand and agree with the plan, please feel free to leave it to us.
Making the change easy to see with photos and a shade guide
So you’re never left thinking “I can’t tell how much whiter it got…”, we use a dedicated tooth shade guide and photos of your mouth to objectively record and share the change in shade before and after treatment.
Being able to see the results with your own eyes is exactly what keeps your motivation high.
Careful sensitivity care that looks after “pain and stinging”
For patients worried about the sharp, stinging sensation particular to whitening, we select a lower-irritation agent and apply a high-concentration fluoride gel after treatment, among other thorough measures against sensitivity.
Even if you’re sensitive to pain, please come and talk to us first.
A range of payment options that put the whiteness you want within reach
So that patients who feel “I’d like to try it, but a big lump sum is a bit much…” can start without financial strain, we accept various credit cards and PayPay, as well as dental loans with up to 60 installments.
You can set up a payment plan that suits your own pace.
Flexible scheduling that fits your lifestyle
For patients kept busy by work or childcare, we flexibly adjust the number of sessions and the pace of visits so coming in is never a burden.
If you have a goal like “I want to be whiter by this date!”, just let us know — we’ll work backward from it to arrange the schedule that suits you best.
Features of our whitening system
If you’re considering teeth whitening in Handa, we’d be glad to have you choose our clinic, backed by extensive treatment experience. We’ve introduced a new whitening system that resolves many of the drawbacks that used to be a concern with older methods. We’re confident you’ll be surprised by both the comfort and the results.
Less damage to your teeth, less likely to sting
Thanks to the agent’s formulation and the special light source, the “sharp stinging” and “post-treatment sensitivity” common with whitening in the past occur far less often. We aim to keep treatment low-stress.
A coating effect that resists staining
The system we use also forms a coating effect on the tooth surface at the same time, making it more resistant to staining. (*To keep the results longer, please avoid dark-colored food and drink for 24 hours after treatment.)
A reliable bleaching effect even with a lower-concentration agent
We use LED light at a specific wavelength (470nm–480nm) that breaks down pigment most efficiently. This means we can whiten effectively while easing the burden on your teeth, without needing a strong agent.
A gentle light source with no risk of sunburn
The LED light used inside the mouth completely filters out the UV rays that can harm skin and gums. There’s no need to worry at all about your lips getting sunburned or your gums darkening because of it.
Shorter prep time, faster treatment
Because the agent is low-irritation, we can skip the preparatory step of covering the gums with a thick resin barrier. This also shortens the time you spend in the treatment chair (with your mouth open), greatly reducing jaw fatigue and strain.
Reasonable pricing that’s easy to keep up
With the wish that more people could easily experience the joy of white teeth, we’ve set our prices well below the going rate for conventional in-office whitening, so you can get started without hesitation.
Steps before starting home whitening
1. Initial consultation
First, we’ll ask about your current concerns and the shade of white you’re aiming for. Using a dedicated shade guide, we’ll check together where your teeth currently stand.
2. Making your custom tray
We take an impression of your mouth and make a custom tray that fits your teeth exactly. Once it’s ready, we’ll hand it over together with the whitening gel and explain, with care, the correct way to use it at home along with any precautions.
3. Starting whitening at home
Wear the tray for about 2 hours a day, at whatever time fits your own lifestyle (please avoid wearing it while sleeping). After taking it off, brush gently and rinse, and wash the tray with water to keep it clean.
4. Checking your progress at the clinic
After about 2 weeks to 1 month, please come in so we can assess how much whiter your teeth have become and check for any issues such as sensitivity.
Steps for in-office whitening
1. Initial consultation
We check your current tooth color and ask about the shade you’re hoping for, to set the goal for treatment.
2. Cleaning
To let the agent penetrate evenly, we clear away stubborn tartar, tea stains, and other discoloration from the tooth surface using special equipment.
3. Whitening treatment (light exposure)
After protecting the lips and gums with special instruments, we apply whitening gel to the tooth surface with care and expose it to LED light. This process is repeated the specified number of times.
4. Checking the shade and aftercare
Once treatment is finished, we rinse off the gel and compare your teeth against the shade guide we showed you at the start, checking together how much whiter they’ve become.
FAQ
Q1. Does it hurt during treatment?
About 10% of patients experience temporary sensitivity symptoms, such as tooth stinging, during or after treatment. These usually settle down within a few days, and we can also apply high-concentration fluoride to ease the symptoms — please feel free to talk to us anytime if you’re concerned.
Q2. How much whiter can I get in one session?
This varies from person to person depending on tooth condition and original color, but for in-office whitening, most patients see an average improvement of about 6–8 shades on the VITA shade guide.
Q3. Will white spots on the tooth surface be noticeable?
Faint markings that were already on the tooth can sometimes stand out more, turning temporarily whiter, right after whitening. In most cases, though, after about 24–48 hours, once the tooth’s moisture level returns to normal, they blend back in with the surrounding color and become far less noticeable.
